At Foley Vision Center in Eugene, Oregon, we provide comprehensive eye exams to patients of all ages.

What are Comprehensive Eye Exams?

At Foley Vision Center in Eugene, Oregon, we provide comprehensive eye exams to patients of all ages. When our patients leave our practice, they walk away having received the most thorough eye exam ever. The initial appointment usually lasts 90 minutes so that we can gain the full scope of your history and vision. We also provide diagnosis and vision testing. This helps us to address vision-related learning problems and rule out ADD or dyslexia.

Why are Eye Exams Needed?

Eye exams allow us to identify and treat any problems with your vision or the structure of your eyes as early as possible. Routine eye exams also allow us to give you helpful tips on maintaining healthy eyes and vision throughout your life. Annual comprehensive exams are recommended for all adults and children.

If you or your child suffers from an eye condition, or already wear glasses, you may need to schedule exams more frequently. You should schedule frequent visits if you have specific chronic health conditions, as you may be at a higher risk for vision problems.

If your family has a history of eye conditions, be sure to let us know so that we can monitor your eye health closely.

What Can I Expect During My Eye Exam?

During your exam, we will ask you questions to determine your personal and family history, discuss chronic conditions or allergies, and identify your specific needs. The review also includes evaluations of:

  • Visual fields
  • Visual acuity
  • Retinal health
  • Color perception
  • Possible refraction errors
  • Macular degeneration risk
  • Glaucoma risk

Based on the results of these tests, your Foley Vision Center provider will either recommend no further treatment, prescribe corrective lenses, change your current prescription, or recommend further testing.

If you already wear glasses or contact lenses, please bring them to your exam.

What is the Available Technology at Foley Vision Center?

At Foley Vision Center, we use Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). OCT captures both the macula and the optic nerve in great detail, allowing us to see below the surface of the retina. These images help us to spot early changes that can lead to glaucoma, macular degeneration, and many other retinal diseases before some patients are even aware of any vision issues.

We also have the Oculus Keratograph 5M device. This device provides images of the oil glands that reside in the upper and lower eyelids. It analyzes tear composition, tear evaporation rates, tear thickness, and the overall health of the ocular surface non-invasively. Corneal topography is another feature of the Oculus Keratograph 5M. Corneal topography maps the external contours of the cornea (the front covering of the eye). This mapping is helpful for contact lens examinations and diagnosing corneal diseases.

The Reichert Ocular Response Analyzer measures intraocular pressure and corneal hysteresis. This brand new technology gives us a better predictive ability at diagnosing glaucoma even at an early age.

We also use Huvitz Digital Refractors to assess the patient’s glasses prescription. This is a much more comfortable experience and a more precise way to test vision.
